Sacbé, la rueda de la fortuna del Tri Neo Dimensiones
Enrique Toussaint, el hombre vestido de un espíritu ajeno a cualquier materia de modernidad nos ofrece un boleto etéreo con numerología de sueño anacrónico; donde la entrada es gratuita a la zona en la que el alma se divierte en ese escenario de la vida.
El músico, compositor y productor musical, perteneciente y cofundador de la legendaria banda de jazz mexicana Sacbé en los años 70 junto a sus reconocidos hermanos, Eugenio y Fernando Toussaint, lanza un disco de estudio en este año 2022.
Sacbé se distinguió del jazz contemporáneo de esa época por autenticar su propia firma, teniendo una impronta infalsificable, un sello legítimo, caracterizado por aquello que no se puede leer, ni reconocer, sólo sentir en el cuerpo de las dimensiones. Pareciera que este eco de comuniones tendría un efecto de codificación al oído sobre los niveles sensoriales para una alineación corporal, ¿Por qué? Tal vez no existía en ellos tal intención, sino sólo el del místico y sonoro juego musical liberado por ese amor fraternal en la boca de la escena; lo que tendría mayor mérito en la transformación de los colores internos.
La banda de jazz grabó y lanzó ocho producciones musicales: Sacbé (1977), Selva Tucanera (1978), Street Corner (1982), Aztlán (1983), Dos Mundos (1988), Los Pintores (1996), Tri Neo (2007), Tri Neo Dimensiones (2022).
Posteriormente, Enrique llevó al estudio una grabación secreta ‹‹por nominarla así›› que se produjo en 2007, durante un ensayo que tuvieron los hermanos Toussaint, previo a una presentación en Minneapolis, Estados Unidos, sin que Eugenio y Fernando supieran de ella hasta momentos después. El resultado se llamó en 2022 Tri Neo Dimensiones; teniendo de cómplices energéticos a gloriosos músicos como el percusionista Armando Montiel y el multiinstrumentalista de vientos Jon Crosse; quienes fueron parte de la banda por largos periodos.
Tri Neo Dimensiones es un compuesto de diez temas, un número que representa fuerza, inicio, acción; un regreso consciente. Platicaremos más adelante con Enrique para que revele los secretos que decretaron esta producción musical.
“Siempre que los hermanos Toussaint se juntan y lo hacen con sus cómplices musicales, algo bueno pasa en el mundo de la música. Los duendes del ritmo, los arcángeles de la armonía y los elfos de la emoción, celebran con la alegría de los acontecimientos liberadores y el éxito de lo bien hecho, de lo bien concebido. Al escuchar por completo el disco y al realizar un ejercicio poético de percepción, tendrían que venir por obligación todas las licencias, los simbolismos, elementos, los pigmentos conocidos y los que faltan por reconocer; tendría que acompañarnos todo el glosario de imágenes letradas y conducentes.
Escuchamos como se rompe el día para decirle a la memoria de los años que la dimensión es un estado de alteración, retardada tal vez, telegráfica, moderna, binaria, electrónica, física, con vocación de electricidad.
Los hermanos atropellaron el hilo del silencio para estar a solas en las luces del sol, más presentes, más conciliados con la existencia. No fue la tecnología quien los atrapó, fueron los soberanos ojos del amor quienes matricularon el momento; la fuerza posible, la condición de mirarse estando ausentes, la razón y sus sonrisas sin vigencia; el salón fue testigo de una avenida por donde transitó la ilusión de unos niños que se mecían ante dios.
Entrevista a Enrique Toussaint
¿Cómo fue ese sonido interior que escuchaste para decidir, producir y lanzar esta producción musical?
Sentí una necesidad de juntar al grupo nuevamente para ofrecérselos a las nuevas generaciones.
¿Qué tanta diferencia encontramos de este álbum a la grabación original de 2007? A sabiendas de las incorporaciones posteriores de Armando Montiel y Jon Crosse.
Es increíble la diferencia, el haber logrado aunar la energía original de la grabación con la energía nueva de 2021, le dio una vida completamente diferente a la música con las intervenciones de Jon y Armando, y el espíritu de ellos agregados.
Estrictamente háblanos de esos momentos en los que escuchas no sólo la música, sino las sonrisas de tus hermanos en unos audífonos, tú ahora en la parte como productor.
Me transporta completamente a ese amor que había entre nosotros, y me encanta la idea de que pude abrir esa ventana a la gente que, aunque nos conoce, no sabe de esa parte de nuestra comunión que aparte de ser estrictamente musical de cierta manera, era una comunión de niños que se salen a jugar al parque.
Se ha mencionado que la revelación es el gran propósito de todo artista. Este álbum contiene magia, alegorías, honra, claridades y fantasías, ¿Cuál es el secreto de este equilibro?
El hecho de que cada uno de esos elementos son parte de una energía total, o sea, no podía existir esa energía total sin esos elementos a su alrededor.
Hablamos de secretos o refugios del corazón; al parecer Armando Montiel y Jon Crosse los escucharon perfectamente y realizaron una incorporación prolija; donde podíamos apostar que ellos fueron parte del ensayo y de la grabación secreta.
Definitivamente esa fue la razón por la que les hablé a ellos dos; porque ellos comulgaron con nosotros en vivo muchos años y sabían perfectamente bien cuál era la dinámica; entonces cuando los invité cayeron exactamente en el mismo lugar. Fue como un contacto cuántico para mi gusto, así como pasar todo el espacio y el tiempo y juntar todo en un mismo lugar. No podrían haber sido otras personas.
Decía el pintor francés Henri Matisse “El jazz es ritmo y significado», ¿Qué significado tiene para Enrique Toussaint el haber producido Tri Neo Dimensiones?
Es inmenso el significado porque es la gran oportunidad divina y técnica de poder usar la cápsula que me permite la tecnología; haber capturado esa esencia del momento de la energía que existió en 2007 y tener la gran posibilidad de unirlas con las de 2021 sin problema alguno; totalmente sumergirlas las dos cosas y hacerlas una.

Sacbé, Tri Neo Dimensiones’ wheel of fortune
Enrique Toussaint, the man dressed in a spirit oblivious to any substance of modernity, offers us an ethereal ticket with the numerology of an anachronistic dream; with free admission into the zone in which the soul is amused on that scenario of life.
The musician, composer and record producer, member and cofounder of the legendary Mexican jazz band Sacbé in the 70’s along with his renowned brothers, Eugenio and Fernando Toussaint, releases a studio album this 2022.
Sacbé stood out from the contemporary jazz of that time by authenticating their own label, by having an unforgeable stamp, a legitimate mark, notable for those things that can’t be read nor recognized, and can only be felt within the entity of dimensions. It would seem that this echo of unions would have a decoding effect on the ear upon the sensory levels in order to get a physical alignment; why? Maybe they didn’t have such intention, but just the mythical and sonorous musical game unleashed by that brotherly love on the heart of stage; which would have had greater merit in the transformation of the internal colors.
The jazz band recorded and released eight musical productions: Sacbé (1977), Selva Tucanera (1978), Street Corner (1982), Aztlán (1983), Dos Mundos (1988), Los Pintores (1996), Tri Neo (2007), Tri Neo Dimensiones (2022).
Subsequently, Enrique took a recording to the studio, one that was produced in 2007 during a Toussaint brothers’ band practice, prior to a presentation in Minneapolis, United States. Such “secret recording” (shall we say) was made during a rehearsal; Eugenio and Fernando didn’t know about it until moments later. The result was named Tri Neo Dimensiones in 2022; having as accomplices glorified musicians such as the percussionist Armando Montiel and the multi-instrumentalist Jon Crosse; who were part of the band for long periods of time.
Tri Neo Dimensiones is comprised by ten tracks, number that represents strength, initiation, action; a self-conscious return. We’ll be talking with Enrique in more detail so he reveals the secrets that decreed this music production.

After listening to the whole album, and by following the poetic exercise of perception, by obligation, every license, symbol, element, the familiar pigments and the ones yet to recognize should arise, the entire glossary of literate and conducive images should accompany us.
We hear how the day breaks by telling the memory of our years that dimension is an altered state, delayed perhaps, telegraphic, modern, binary, electronic, physical, with an electric vocation.
The brothers ran over the thread of silence in order to be alone in the lights of the Sun, more present, more reconciled with existence. It wasn’t technology what captivated them, it was the sovereign eyes of love what seized the moment; the potential strength, the ability to look at each other albeit being absent, reasoning and their smiles with no expiration; the room witnessed the avenue in which the illusion of those children who would sway before God, traversed.
Interview with Enrique Toussaint
How was that internal sound that you heard in order to decide, to produce and to release this music production?
I felt the need to bring the band back together to offer it to the new generations.
What difference do we find in this album compared to the original recording of 2007? Bearing in mind Armando Montiel and Jon Crosse’s later incorporation.
The difference is unbelievable, bringing together the energy of the original recording and the new energy of 2021 provided a completely different life to the music, with the interventions of Jon and Armando, and their added spirits.
Tell us strictly about those moments in which you listen not only to the music, but to your brothers’ smiles as well through the headphones, now as a producer.
It takes me back to that love between us, and I love the idea of me being able to open that window to the people, although they know us, they don’t know that part of our communion which, besides being strictly musical in a way, it was the communion of children playing out in the park.
It has been told that revelation is the ultimate purpose of every artist. This album contains magic, allegories, honor, clarity and fantasies, what’s the secret for this balance?
The fact that each of those elements are part of a whole energy, meaning, that whole energy could not exist without those elements around it.
We’re talking about secrets or shelters for the heart; apparently Armando Montiel and Jon Crosse heard you perfectly and they were neatly integrated; where we could bet that they were part of the rehearsal and the secret recording.
Definitely that was the reason why I called them both, because they shared many years with us live and they perfectly knew the dynamics; so when I invited them, they fell right into the same spot. It was a quantic contact for my liking, and so it was to spend all the time and space and to put it all together in the same place. It couldn’t have been anyone else.
French painter Henri Matisse stated that “Jazz is rhythm and meaning”, what meaning does it have for Enrique Toussaint having produced Tri Neo Dimensiones?
The meaning is immeasurable because it’s the divine and technical opportunity facilitated by technology; to capture the essence of that moment of energy that existed back in 2007 and being able to connect it with the ones from 2021 without any trouble; to totally submerge both things and make them one.
